Editor’s Note: Some of you reading
this article prayed for Cindy while she was
away. God honored those prayers and Cindy returned
safely after two months in mainland China.
When we told Cindy that we wanted to feature
her trip to China in this issue of our magazine,
she said, “I hope it can give the readers
some idea about the situation of Chinese Christianity
and how bad their worship circumstance is and
how many lost souls there are in China. I pray
hard that God will touch more believers to
reach out to non-believers.”
Cindy
came to America to learn about the Bible
in 2004. In China, her small Bible
study of young Christians struggled to understand
God’s Word. So Cindy set off for America.
After two years of Seminary, Cindy returned
to China to visit her family and join her
first mission trip in China. As the time
approached,
God impressed on her heart that she needed
to share Jesus with her people. Upon stumbling
on a CFO training session, Cindy reluctantly
joined the group.
Cindy
asked the CFO Representative if the gospel
tract was available in Chinese. “Not
until you translate it,” was the answer.
Just three weeks from her trip to China, Cindy
took the challenge. The printing company printed
the tracts in time. And with much prayer, she
left for China as scheduled - tracts and beads
in hand.
Cindy’s trip would be filled with joy
and sadness. One of her highlights was the
opportunity to lead her best friend to the
Lord, a blessing she will always treasure.
Cindy’s team would have the opportunity
to share the gospel with many college students
on a school campus. The team rejoiced as decisions
for Christ were made. But it also pained the
team to see so many of their countrymen reluctant
to accept the gospel of Jesus. At times Cindy’s
heart was broken.
There
was also something else that broke Cindy’s
heart. Growing up in China she never felt
that there were any limits
to her
religious freedom. She reasoned that, when
she returned to China, she could spread the
gospel pretty much anywhere she wanted. Before
she left she talked to several friends that
warned her to be careful. Sadly, she discovered
their caution was valid. Her cell phone was
tapped. She was followed by the police. In
her home town Cindy and two American friends
were interrogated by the police.
But, through all of this, Cindy and her traveling
companions never faltered in their determination
to spread the gospel and to leave beads and
tracts everywhere they went.
Final note from the editors: Upon retuning
to the United States, Cindy found out that
her father was imprisoned for 2 weeks because
of her attempts to spread the good news of
salvation through Jesus Christ. Her father
is out of prison now but it is a chilling reminder
that, at least in some parts of the world,
there is a price to pay for the honor of being
called a child of God.
