CFO HISTORY

In June of 1987, a small group of Christ-centered people, most of them farmers in central Maryland, gathered to discuss forming a group that would pray together and begin an outreach mission to bring unsaved people to a saving faith. The vote was unanimous, and the first chapter of Fellowship of Christian Farmers International FCFI) in America was “born.”

In August of that year, the Central Maryland Chapter had its first picnic.

The following March, the first Outreach Luncheon brought a joyful sharing testimonies of newly discovered relationships with the Heavenly Father. The next January, the chapter rented a booth at the Pennsylvania Farm Show and began passing out gospel tracts. Then volunteers began stringing five beads on a leather cord and attaching it to a yard-long, “walking stick.” It quickly grew as an tool for sharing Jesus’ salvation message at an increasing number of fairs and events.

In 1999, Christian Farmers Outreach, Inc., received its tax-exempt, non-profit status, and became an independent non-denominational outreach ministry. Today, more than 2,200 people are involved in its outreach efforts.

CFO recently completed the 20th annual Outreach Luncheon. Our Lord has blessed us with inspiring Christian speakers – Vice President Dan Quayle, Joni Eareckson Tada, Dr. Benjamin Carson and others. Next summer’s picnic will be our 21st.

Christian Farmers Outreach continues to grow in scope and purpose – thanks to doors of opportunity opened by our awesome Lord. Each year, we help about 20 new churches start witnessing programs. These training and witnessing programs have expanded into Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, California, and Alabama, and will continue to grow as our Lord provides.

The Lord recently opened a new ministry for feeding the hungry. This winter, CFO supplied enough deer meat for 50,000 meals to Westminster Rescue Mission and Baltimore’s Teen Challenge Mission, and Helping Up Mission, Baltimore Rescue Mission and Westside Mission.
